About This Place

Located in the chic heart of Polanco, Guzina Oaxaca offers a vibrant and authentic taste of Oaxacan cuisine that captivates both locals and visitors alike. This Mexican restaurant seamlessly blends traditional flavors with a welcoming atmosphere that feels like a warm embrace from home. Whether you come for a leisurely breakfast or a rich dinner experience, Guzina Oaxaca’s menu is a journey through Oaxaca’s culinary heritage.

The moment you step inside, the aroma of freshly made tortillas sizzling on the comal instantly sets the stage. The array of traditional Oaxacan bites is impressive and thoughtfully curated, highlighting the region’s distinct flavors. Signature dishes such as the Beef Tongue Tacos deliver a deeply satisfying blend of tender, flavorful meat wrapped in warm, handmade tortillas, while the Enmoladas de Coloradito showcase the complex richness of authentic mole sauces. Customers rave about the mole negro, calling it “especially good” and perfectly balanced, avoiding the pitfalls of over-seasoning.

For seafood lovers, the Catch of the Day Ceviche and refreshing Gasolinazo cocktails provide a light, fresh contrast to the richer mains. The ceviche, described by patrons as “incredibly fresh” with textures that “melt in your mouth,” truly exemplifies Guzina Oaxaca’s dedication to quality and freshness. Don’t miss their inventive use of chapulines (grasshoppers) or the ever-intriguing tamales de pato, slow-cooked to tender perfection with red mole that takes nearly 10 hours to prepare.

The dessert offerings are equally compelling, with indulgences like Pastel de Chocolate Con Hierba Santa and Pan de Elote adding a sweet, aromatic finish to an already delightful meal. The traditional Chocolate de Agua and soothing Atole de Arroz are perfect companions on cooler evenings or as a comforting close to your dining experience.

What elevates Guzina Oaxaca beyond its food is the gracious, attentive service led by team members like Carlos and Ernesto, who create a heartfelt connection with diners. Guests frequently mention feeling genuinely cared for—the kind of personalized attention that makes the meal unforgettable. Their knowledge and willingness to guide you through the drink pairings or select the best dishes elevate your visit from dinner to a memorable experience. For example, one guest highlighted the care taken when sampling different pechugas before choosing, showing how personalized the service is.

The restaurant’s inviting garden terrace adds a relaxed yet elegant vibe, making it ideal for everything from casual brunches to special events. Their services, including online reservations, delivery, and takeout, ensure that the unique flavors of Oaxaca are always accessible to you.

In summary, Guzina Oaxaca is more than just a restaurant—it’s a celebration of Oaxacan culture through exquisite dishes and heartfelt hospitality. Whether you’re craving the comforting taste of home-cooked mole, adventurous traditional bites like chapulines, or a perfectly crafted cocktail, this gem in Polanco promises a rich, authentic dining experience that stays with you long after the last bite.

This place was pretty busy on a Sunday morning. You walk in and the first thing you see is fresh tortillas on a comal. Everything we ordered tasted great—good flavor without being overly salty. The mole negro was especially good.

Ernesto and Carlos provided absolutely amazing service. I mentioned to Carlos that I was a fan of pechuga, and he graciously brought over two different bottles for my best friend and me to taste before we made our decision. We ended up ordering one of each. The fish ceviche was incredibly fresh—the texture practically melted in your mouth—and the suckling pig appetizer was simply phenomenal. Their complex mole sauce paired beautifully with the duck, exhibiting an almost 5-spice Chinese duck influence. The staff served every dish directly to us, perfectly portioning and plating the food onto our plates. The complimentary tableside salsa and fresh tostadas were also a fantastic bonus! I definitely recommend this restaurant!

A hidden gem with the friendliest service, delicious food, and great drinks. Specifically recommend the ceviche and seafood tostada for appetizers. The beef shank was a favorite at our table and the tamales with red mole take approximately 10 hours to prepare and were quite tender! I recommend sticking around for dessert if you’re not too full. Prices were reasonable for the quality and service. This dinner was quite the experience and we plan to be back

Came for lunch and had the best moles tamales I’ve ever had. Enjoyed the yellow mole squash blossom, fresh salsa, alongside the lengua tacos! So flavorful! The mole was delicious and the salsa was prepared in front of us. Highly recommend visiting!

The food and cocktails at Guzina Oaxaca were amazing. Beautiful fresh salsa made at the table as soon as you seated comfortably. The green sauce that came with the Suckling Pig Taquitos was to die for! The service from all the staff was excellent! Can’t wait to return.

A cool fairly large restaurant with a front patio that serves creative Mexican food with impeccable service. The salsa was made at our table was the highlight - spectacular, maybe the best I have ever eaten. The tomato soup was also just perfect. Highly recommended!!
